  • The responsibility of finding cold storage facilities has been entrusted to a National Expert Group
  • A refrigerated van can also be used to move the vaccine from one place to another.

The country hopes to get the Corona vaccine in the next few months. The government has started preparations to reach it across the country soon. Cold storage facilities are being searched at different places to store it. A National Expert Group has been given the responsibility. The group is identifying such facilities by interacting with start ups like Swiggy and Jomato with the pharmaceutical sector, food processing industry, agro businesses.

According to sources, storage and large freeze facilities are being found at the district level in all states to store the vaccine. Such cold storage is being identified where the temperature can be maintained from zero to minus 80 degrees Celsius. Vaccines can be stored at temperatures ranging from 2 to 8 ° C.

18% of people will be vaccinated in six months

According to sources, most of the vaccine candidates will be in liquid form. Some of these may also be freeze-dried. Two doses will be given through injection. Some doses of the vaccine may also need to be given more than this. Its multi dose vials will be delivered at all places. How much cold storage facilities will be required to keep all the vaccines has also been estimated. There is a plan to vaccinate 18% of the country’s population in the next six months.

Refrigerated vans will be used to bring the vaccine

The government is also thinking of using refrigerated vans to carry the vaccine from one place to another. It is being considered to increase their number. Apart from such government vans, vans near the private sector can also be used when needed. The biggest challenge is to safely transport the vaccine from one place to another to conduct vaccination on a large scale.

Cold storage facilities to be increased in many states
Many states currently have low cold storage facilities in terms of storing the vaccine. The Union Health Ministry has decided to extend these facilities in such states. The states that will work for it include Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Delhi, Assam, Jharkhand and Odisha.
