The king’s court still appears in Mysuru today

It is believed that Mysore Dussehra was started by the rulers of Vijayanagar in the 15th century. But, turn the pages of history, it is revealed that grandeur of Dussehra festival was given during the Wadayar reign. The Wadayar kings ruled Karnataka for nearly 150 years and made Mysuru their capital, during which time it was decided to celebrate Mysore Dussehra festival as a state festival. Even after independence, the state government continued to celebrate it as a state celebration.

A special court of the king is held here in Navratri. The present Maharaj of Mysuru Yaduvir Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar sits on the throne of gold. Till last year, some special people used to see this court, but this year due to Corona infection its grandeur has also been reduced. There is a ban on any outsider visiting the court.
