This photo is from 26 January this year. Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the martyrs of the country by going to the National War Memorial.

Today, 50 years of victory in the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lit the golden victory torch at the National War Memorial (NWM) in New Delhi. Here he was led by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat and heads of all the three wings of the army were also present. All will pay tribute to the martyrs.

The Golden Victory Year is being celebrated all over the country from Wednesday. Many programs are being held in memory of the martyrs. These will honor the soldiers and martyrs’ widows who fought in the 1971 war. Along with this, there will be band displays, seminars, exhibitions, film festivals, conclaves and adventure activities.

Four victory torches lit

The Prime Minister lit four victory torches with the flame of the National War Memorial. These torches will be transported to different parts of the country. These torches will also reach the villages of Param Vir Chakra and Mahavir Chakra winners of 1971 Indo-Pak war. While creating the National War Memorial, the soil of their villages was brought to honor all these gallantry award winners.

What happened in the Indo-Pak war of 1971?

The main reason for the war between India and Pakistan in 1971 was to liberate Bangladesh. The Indian Army also participated in this battle. In this fight that lasted 13 days, the Pak army had to face the loss. On 16 December 1971, Pakistani General AAK Niazi along with 90 thousand of his soldiers surrendered in front of India and Mukti Vahini in Dhaka. With this, Bangladesh was separated from Pakistan.
