One and a half times more lamps than last time
All 84 ghats of Kashi on Dev Deepawali are illuminated with lamps. Every year millions of people reach to see this amazing sight. But this time the number of devotees has been limited due to Corona crisis. Masks are mandatory for every person. Last year 1 million diyas were burnt here. But this time the number of lamps has been increased to 5 lakhs. There will also be cultural programs at 20-25 Ghats.

Ongoing preparation for Dev Deepawali.
Importance of Dev Deepawali
It is believed that on the day of Dev Diwali, all the gods come to the Ghats of Benares. On the day of Kartik Purnima, Lord Shiva killed a demon named Tripurasura. After the slaughter of Tripurasura, all the gods and goddesses were happy to meet together. In Kashi, Dev is considered a wonderful combination of Deepawali. The virtue of donating lamps on this day is fruitful and of special importance. It is believed that Lord Bholenath himself came to earth and celebrated Diwali at Ganga Ghat with the deities at Nyari Kashi from three worlds. Therefore, this God Deepawali also has religious, spiritual and cultural significance.
