The child, who fell in a 200 feet deep borewell in Setpura village in Niwari district of Madhya Pradesh, could not be evacuated even after 24 hours. 5-year-old Prahlad Kushwaha had fallen into the borewell of his own family farm at 9 am Wednesday. The army is engaged in its rescue.

Children can be trapped at a depth of 50-60 feet
Efforts are being made to monitor the condition of the child by putting a camera in the borewell. Parallel excavations are being done 40 feet away from the borewell. About 45 feet of excavation has been done. It is estimated that the child may be trapped 50-60 feet below. The rescue team hopes to have the child removed by noon.

A team of doctors with oxygen cylinders is on the spot. Collectors Ashish Bhargava and SP Vahini Singh are also on the spot. The whole village is waiting for the child to be taken out. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has also tweeted and prayed for the child’s well being.

The timeline

  • Prahlada fell into the borewell at 9 am on Wednesday.
  • The family gave information on dial 100 at 10 o’clock.
  • At 10.30, SDM, Tehsildar, and Police Station Incharge reached the spot.
  • At 12, Collector and SP went to the spot and informed the rescue team.
  • Lieutenant Colonel KK Gautam from Babina reached the spot at 1 pm.
  • At 2.30, a 16-member team rescue team from Babina, a 3-member night vision team from Jhansi, and a 7-member team of NDRF from Tikamgarh reached the spot.
  • By 6 pm, the tunnel was dug about 30 feet deep from 30 meters away from the borewell.
  • By 10 am Thursday, the rescue team hoped that the child would be taken out by noon.
