The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will launch the first crewless Gaganyaan by the end of 2021. It also plans to send an indigenous robot. The mission was to be launched in 2020, but was postponed because of Corona. Thereafter, plans were launched in the first half of 2021. Gaganyaan could not be launched this time too.

This project is part of ISRO’s plan to send astronauts into space. Before doing so another crew les space craft will be launched in 2022. According to media reports, ISRO chairman Dr. K. Sivan has stated that the human rating process is progressing well. It is expected to be completed in the second half of 2021.

Corona will decide the future of the mission
Dr. K Sivan has stated that whether or not two unmanned missions will be launched in 2021 will depend on the present situation. A decision will be taken based on what happens in the coming months. If the corona virus effect continues in this way, then we may have to revisit some projects.

Private sector participation too
ISRO is also taking help of private sector for its Gaganyaan project. Larsen & Toubro (L&T), one of the country’s largest engineering companies, has been given the responsibility of making hardware for the Gaganyaan launch vehicle. The company stated on 17 November that it had already been delivered prematurely. The company says it has delivered the middle segment of the world’s third largest solid propellant rocket booster S-200, despite Corona’s restrictions.

Vyom will send friends with Gaganyaan
ISRO will send indigenously developed robot ‘Vyom Mitra’ with this flight. This is being done as an experiment. This robot will behave exactly like humans and send a report to ISRO from space.
