Opposition to the new agricultural laws has now intensified even within the NDA. Another ally, the National Democratic Party (RLP), broke away from the NDA 3 months after the Akali Dal left the alliance. Hanuman Beniwal, Convenor of RLP and MP from Nagaur on the Shahjahanpur-Kheda border of Alwar, announced his separation from the NDA. Beniwal also resigned on December 19 from three committees of Parliament on the issue of farmers.

Hanuman Beniwal joined the NDA with his party RLP in April 2019 before the Lok Sabha elections. Due to the alliance, BJP did not field its candidate in front of Beniwal in Nagaur Lok Sabha seat. But, now Beniwal has said – From today the alliance with the BJP has ended. If the need arises for the farmers, I will also resign from the post of MP. If it had been in Parliament when the law was brought, it would have torn the paper.

Jat face in Rajasthan politics
Khivansar of Nagaur district is the stronghold of Beniwal. In many villages including Khajwana, Janaana, Bu-nravata and Gwalu, Beniwal is affected. There is a large number of Jat community, who are farmers. The RLP had fielded candidates from all over Rajasthan in the recent Panchayati Raj elections. Now, they are actively participating in the Beniwal movement to help farmers of other districts. It is believed that that is why they separated themselves from the alliance.

Second shock to NDA in 3 months
Farmers have been sitting on dharna for more than a month against the Center regarding agricultural laws. Despite all the efforts of the government, the movement continues. This is the second major setback to the alliance in three months, if we talk about the NDA. Earlier, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur resigned from the cabinet. Subsequently, on 26 September, the NDA’s more than two-decade-old ally Akali Dal split. The RLP split on 26 December. This means that the NDA has received its second major setback in three months.
