Anant Aggarwal, CEO, Adex (Harvard-MIT)
Kovid-19 has provided an important lesson in technology adoption in education. The format of the classes has changed. Along with the traditional way of teaching, a blended format of high quality online content is now available on platforms like Adex. The integration of online learning with personal learning has become a new normal which is finally taking the direction of high quality education and learning.
Education is always a human right, like access to clean water and clean air. The aim of education is to become a good citizen of the world with advancement in career by acquiring skills. The Kovid epidemic highlighted disparities in many systems. It also includes all the issues related to education.
In the epidemic-affected world, education aims to create a more equal and equitable society, creating equal opportunities for everyone to learn. At the same time people have to improve their skills, learn new skills so that they can get jobs that are not affected by the epidemic. Education will never be the same as before.
The growing demand for online learning will continue to be adopted which will provide huge data such as average time spent on a video, how many times it is replayed, most asked questions on the discussion forum, evaluation performance, learning Behavior etc. These points will be intensively analyzed and researched for future design.
With the technical enabling of education, the way of teaching and learning is also changing. Digital learning will make equal access to education much easier. Students will be able to learn from where they are. Students studying online from a university will be able to apply for a job in the same way as alumni of any A grade institute.
Platforms like Edex are providing modular credentials that students can acquire online prior to college admission. Till now the trend was that if any student is in engineering stream at school level, then he will do B.Tech later or possibly move towards MBA. But now before admission in college, courses like micro bachelor or micro masters have become available. Before admission to the college, you should take any of these courses and get the skills for it before further studies. That is, the skills acquired in a short period of time will take relatively less time to get a full degree and in this way, it will also be easier to get a job.
The adoption of modular online education in an on-campus degree will also have an impact on allied industries. For example, if the learner is able to study from home, the travel sector will be affected. The need for hostels will start to decrease, ie the real estate sector will be affected. If classes are held on Zoom / Skype, the need and purchase of laptops, mobile phones will increase i.e. IT / ITeS and Net service provider sector will be affected. Like Work from Home, Learn from Home will become New Normal, affecting the instructors in the corporate training market.
