Home Minister Narottam Mishra is also the hardcore Hindu face of the Madhya Pradesh government.

The Madhya Pradesh government seems to have changed since the by-elections. The BJP government, which could not gather majority figures in the 2018 elections, is now seen to be adopting a tough attitude on the issue of Hindutva in Madhya Pradesh. Religious matters like Love Jihad and now Go-Cabinet were decided. Both these cases are directly related to the Hindu vote bank.

On this changed face of the Shivraj government, Dainik Bhaskar spoke to Home Minister Narottam Mishra. Home Minister Mishra is also the hardcore Hindu face of the government. On bringing the law on Love Jihad, he made it clear that in view of the increasing incidents, we had no option but to bring a law against it. Edited excerpts:

Question: Earlier Love had said to bring a law against Jihad, then said – are against Jihad. Why two different things?

home Minister: We oppose the love that leads to Jihad. This is what we are also saying.

Question: That means not avoiding the word love, just opposing jihad?

home Minister: How can love be avoided? The love mother does to her son. Brother also does brother.

Question: Does the government have any such study or survey that suggests that there was no way out other than this law?

home Minister: In the kind of incidents that are happening, there was no option left except to bring legislation. The kind of people with a distorted mindset, shoot somewhere, threaten to throw acid, assault them. Changing the name. Now this is not good. This is cheating.

Question: Were cases constantly increasing? Which and how many such cases happened in Madhya Pradesh?

home Minister: Recently, a case has been filed in Chhindwara on 21st. It seems that the cases are constantly increasing.

Question: Will not the person’s right to freedom be violated by giving mandatory information to the collector before voluntary conversion

home Minister: What kind of abuses? If you are converting, you should apply. Now many people live by name change. Change the name to love. If it is investigated, what is the problem?

Question: The face of the BJP government in MP is now changed. Especially on the issue of Hindutva. It is not that after the defeat in the 2018 elections, you are advancing Hardcore Hindutva.

home Minister: Nothing is changing face. What you have been seeing for 15 years is the same face.

Question: Experts are saying that Love Jihad will not be mentioned anywhere in the law. You are repeatedly told to bring a law against love jihad.

home Minister: When did we mention We are saying from the beginning that religion is bringing freedom.

Question: Is the BJP’s motive behind this to take political advantage?

home Minister: We worry about the benefit of society. Don’t worry about political gains.
