Pakistani militants tried to infiltrate into Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday night. The Army and the Border Security Force launched a joint operation to prevent the infiltration of terrorists near the Pakistani border in the Machil sector. During this, 3 terrorists were killed. Three soldiers including the army captain were also killed in the encounter. Officials of the Border Security Force said that Constable Sudeep Sarkar has also given his martyrdom during the operation. The operation is still going on.

Defense spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia in Srinagar said that the security forces foiled an attempt to infiltrate the border on the night of 7-8 November. At around 1 pm, BSF’s patrolling unit saw some suspicious activity near the fence set up to prevent infiltration about 3 and a half kilometers from the LoC. The soldiers challenged the intruders.

AK-47 and two bags from terrorists

BSF constable Sudeep Sarkar was martyred in the firing that followed. A terrorist was also killed. An AK-47 rifle and two bags were recovered from the spot. The firing stopped at around 4 pm. Subsequently, more jawans were dispatched to launch search operations in the vicinity. During this time the presence of some terrorists was detected with the help of surveillance devices.

After this, the encounter started again at 10:20 am, about one and a half kilometers away from LoC. Two terrorists were killed in it. Three army soldiers were martyred. 2 others are injured. The injured have been evacuated from the spot. The encounter with the terrorists is still going on.

Frequent encounters

There are frequent encounters with terrorists in Kashmir. A week earlier, the CRPF and the police had piled Saifullah, the top commander of Hizbul in Srinagar. During this time his partner was arrested. Currently, Saifullah was the most wanted terrorist among active terrorists in Kashmir. On Friday, a terrorist was killed in Pampore in South Kashmir. During this time a local terrorist also surrendered.
