The Mumbai Police on Monday claimed a major claim in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in the Television Rating Point (TRP) scam. “Republic TV’s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami gave millions of rupees to former Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) CEO Partho Dasgupta to raise the ratings of his two channels,” police said.

For the first time in the TRP scam, the police have clearly named Arnab. Earlier, the owner of the republic was in the list of accused, Arnab was not named.

Dasgupta’s remand extended till 30 December
According to the remand report submitted by the police, when Dasgupta was the CEO of BARC, Arnab and other accused conspired to illegally raise the TRP of Republic India and Republic TV. For this, Arnab paid millions of rupees to Dasgupta on several occasions. The police sought Dasgupta’s remand, claiming this in court. Court extended remand till 30 December.

Dasgupta bought luxury goods from Arnab’s money
According to the report, Dasgupta bought jewelery and other valuables from the money he received from Arnab, he has been recovered from his house. These include Tag Haier’s watch worth around Rs 1 lakh, imitation jewelery worth Rs 2.22 lakh and stones. Dasgupta was arrested last week. This was the 15th arrest in the TRP scam.
