The army had issued an order 4 months earlier on giving permanent commission to women officers.

The first Army Board, created to give permanent commission to women officers in the Army, released the results on Thursday. Following the board’s decision, about 49% of the army’s women officers will remain in service.

Army sources said the board was considering giving a permanent commission to a total of 615 women officers. Of these, around 320 women officers will retire after 20 years of service. They will also get pension.

The army had issued an order to give permanent commission to women officers about 4 months ago. After this decision, the way for women to get permanent commission in all 10 streams of Army – Army Air Defense, Signal, Engineer, Army Aviation, Electronics and Mechanical Engineer, Army Service Corp, Intelligence, Judge, Advocate General and Educational Corp Was.

What is Permanent Commission?
Before the Supreme Court’s decision, only men who served in the Army for 14 years in the Short Service Commission (SSC) were getting the option of permanent commission, but women did not have this right. On the other hand, women officers in Air Force and Navy are already getting permanent commission. Women in the Short Service Commission in the Army retire after serving for 14 years. Now they can apply for permanent commission. The selected female officer can continue the service further. They will retire according to rank on completion of service.
